Cloth Diapering

do CD go on sale other times of year?

Hey there - I'm seriously considering cloth diapering, but I haven't done all the research I want and I also feel it's too early in my pregnancy to start planning for such things. Seeing all the sales that are going on now is so tempting, but I just can't bring myself to make the purchases - between now and mid-July do you think there will be sales on CD? I know probably not all at the same time like now, but do some sites regularly have sales? Any guidance/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • I know they had them over labor day.  I'm guessing Memorial day may bring some sales as well.

Good to know! I hope to be more informed and confident in my pregnancy within the next few weeks - thanks!

  • Yes.  I decided to CD last spring, DS was born in August and there have been tons of sales.  I honestly haven't been too impressed with the Black Friday deals...but maybe it's because I don't really need any diapers.

  • Yeah there will be lots of sales between now and July.  Last year I bought a lot of BGs in April B5G1 so that's not just a Black Friday deal.  Also keep an eye out for Cottonbabies seconds sales.  Those happen periodically and you can get some really good deals through that.
  • I think you can definitely hold off.  I've seen 15% off other times, and it seems like a lot of the places only have maybe 5% off more than usual.  Sure, that's good, but not if you feel rushed and buy things you might not want, later.

Have you done any research into doing a diaper trial, like @ Jillian's Drawers?  I wish I had done this as a newbie.

Also, you can save way more buying used.  At first I was like "there is NO way I will by used diapers, yuck!", but I have since changed my mind.  Some of what I bought "used" wasn't actually used just prepped or even a couple things on used boards that still had tags, so you can save lots of $ that way and see what you like.

  • Oh yeah.  I have seconds (read new but not 1st quality) BumGenius from cotton babies, Kissaluvs, monkey snuggles, and blueberry diapers.  These generally are better than the BF sales.  So no pressure.

  • I think it depends on what kind of diapers you end up buying.  I LOVE Softbums and have not seen sales on them so I stocked up on them on BF since I know I love them and since I'm expecting 2 more in cloth in April!!! :)  If you don't know what you like yet, I suggest waiting or trying a diaper trial first.  It would be a shame to stock up on a sale and end up hating what you bought!  It took me several brands to finally find one that FIT my skinny boy and that I truly LOVED!

  • Thanks everyone! I really appreciate all your responses - the more I read up on it the more I'm inclined to CD. I will continue to do my research and will hold off on purchases. I know of some acquaintances that CD that will hopefully be able to help me out IRL so I can actually see how it comes together before trying it out myself, but all of my friends and family use disposable.
