Pros and cons of wipe warmer

Hey there,

I got a wipe warmer for our baby shower and my DH seems to think it's unneccessary. He thinks it'll dry out the wipes and will just be another fire hazard (electric heating element).

In your experience, do you feel a wipe warmer is a NEED to have or NICE to have?

TIA.

  • neither need or nice to have.

they will dry out your wipes and can cause UTI's in little girls.

not worth it to me. Wipes aren't that cold, and they get used to it anyways.

  • I got one as a gift and actually loved using it!  The wipes dried out only when there were 3-4 left in the case.  I plan on using it again for this kiddo.

  • Not necessary, but we love it.

Liam screams if the wipe is cold, so it's very convenient. It has never dried out our wipes.

  • Definitly dont do it!!! Just as a previous poster said their child screams with  a cold wipe. And I personally would not want to have to make sure wipes are warm everywhere i go.  Just like warm bottles. I plan on doing room temp. Much more useful and readily available.  jmo.

The baby will not miss what it never had.

  • We actually went out and bought one after DS was born b/c he screamed so bad during diaper changes.  He had collapsed a lung at birth from crying so hard so I would do ANYTHING to keep him from screaming!  Honestly, it didn't make much of a difference.  He just hated being undressed and screamed like that even in a nice warm bath.  Ours didn't dry out the wipes at all- if anything I think it kept them more moist.  I think it was the Munchkin one from Target.  And I don't think it was a fire hazard either- but of course we never really left wipes in there for a long period- we went through them pretty fast!  We got it out and I will probably use it in the beginning again with this one just b/c I wouldn't want an ice cold wipe on my butt in the middle of winter so I won't do it to my baby!  But is it a MUST have?  Nope, not at all.

  • I REALLY would not do this. We had one at first, and it was such a pain - always had to make sure it was plugged in, and it started molding. Now we just use the regular Huggies plastic dispenser box, it's so much easier. Baby does not care, either.
  • We have a warmer in the nursery for the cloth wipes but use disposable everywhere else in the house. I don't think if I didn't use cloth I would have one. DS doesn't seem to notice the difference.

  • What about bacteria? I am using cloth wipes and was told that a warmer is a good way to keep them moist. But my hubby was wondering about it molding and harboring bacteria.
  • I'm always a fan of not requiring anything extra that I may not have available to me if I'm somewhere else. I never heated anything.

  • Love it.  As a newborn he would scream would cold wipes.  It was $20 and well worth it for the first few months we used it.  After a while he got used to it but it was miserable to see him jump with cold wipes.

  •  a friend gave me one. the only wipes it has ever dried out are the target brand which we hate using anyway. We live in New England and with a winter baby it was something we liked. DD is 15 months old and has never had a UTI. I don't think it's an absolutely necessary thing to have, but, for us, it was nice to have in the cold months
  • totally unneccessary IMO.

  • total waste.

And I wouldn't want LO to get used to the warm wipes.  What will you do when you are not at home and have no way to warm the wipes?  Unless you have a travel warmer...

  • Used it all the time! Never dried out the wipes!!!!
