more kindle questions - help please

Add me to the growing list of kindle buyers.  I am set on the kindle for DH, but now realize there are so many choices. What size screen should I get.  Is 6" big enough or do I need the 9.4. What's E ink?  And is the DX version really work the extra $$$?

Re: more kindle questions - help please

  • I like the smaller one.  It's convenient to toss in my bag and I don't want to have to hold anything really big when reading in bed.  e-ink is the 'ink' used to display the words on the 'page' of the kindle.  It's not backlit so if you are going to read at night or in dim conditions I recommend the case with the light.

I use the 3G if I am at a restaurant , airport or conference center that doesn't have free wi-fi, but for the most part could get by happily with just wi-fi.

  • I skipped the 3G and wish I hadn't.  We have wireless internet at home, but a lot of other places that have wireless are password protected.  For some reason, I can't access the internet on mine at my university.  The library's wireless works fine, as does a few of the local restaurants.  However, it is frustrating when you want to get on and cannot.

Also, I've found that more and more hotels offer wireless internet, but you have to pay for it.  (Particularly the nicer hotels.  Terribly ironic that the more you pay to stay somewhere, the more you have to pay for 'extras').

  • another question...can you go on the internet like facebook with it?  or just to download books?

good point - but i already clicked "order" and went with just wi-fi.  He mainly travels business and would definitely need to be working online while at the hotel so business would have to pay for the connection anyway.  i'm consoling myself that i haven't made the wrong decision.
