Hello,
We are new to Austin (from Boston) and are trying to decide where to buy/ build a house!
Does anyone know the kid-friendliness of Belterra and/or Highpointe neighborhoods in Dripping Springs? If you live there, do you like it?
I'm not sure if this is an ok to question to even ask, but I thought I'd give it a try!
Thanks in advance!
Re: Belterra / Highpointe in Dripping Springs?
I just moved out of Highpointe. We lived there for three years and loved it. The primary reason we moved was because I work downtown and DH was transferred to north Austin; the morning and afternoon traffic does suck. If yall work from home or only one commutes, it really wouldn't be that bad.
You won't find better amenities or more for your money than those two subdivisions. I loved the pools and workout room- plus there's a few pilates instructors in the neighborhood that do cheap classes in the ballet room. The outdoor space is awesome- they do lots of holiday events at the amenities center. I was a fan of the gated aspect as well. Belterra is a little more of an open subd- it's more accessible, but also more of a cut-through neighborhood.
They are both incredibly family friendly. There are tons of SAHMs and WFH families. In a way I felt like I didn't fit in bc I don't have kids, other than a shared DSS.
If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. Also, if you need a realtor rec, I'd be happy to pass on my agent's info. She lives in HP, but sells a lot of Belterra as well.
Welcome to Austin.
Welcome to Austin! What part of Boston are you moving from? My husband and I moved from there as well. My experience is also that Belterra is extremely family friendly. It's the type of neighborhood that everyone around comes to to go trick or treating. Being a northern transplant, my husband and I personally have never really liked the newly developed subdivisions with no trees and similar floor plans across the whole neighborhood. I have to say that Belterra made me reconsider that a bit - it seems like a really great place to raise kiddos!
I'm not a realtor but I have a lot of great recommendations. Wendy Papasan is one great rec: 1 512.297.9431; wpapasan@kw.com. Her husband wrote a book called The Millionaire Real Estate Agent with Gary Keller which is one of the premier real estate books! She's awesome!
Let me know if I can help!

Thanks - just sent you a message with some more questions!!!
Thank you!! We last lived in Watertown, but before that lived downtown in the North End and in the Mercantile Wharf building by Fan. Hall. Where were you guys?
And I completely know what you mean about the no trees / new developments- we were at first turned off by them but once we toured some builder homes in both places we changed our minds. They seem like good places for families. I have also been surprised at how small some of the lot sizes are here. There is so much land - why are some of the houses so close together!?
But so far we really love Austin, and also love how much more you can get for your money here!
