Baby Names

Name Comment

OK, so I'm sure my 10-year-old cousin was just repeating what my mom said to her, but I thought it was odd.  She said that my mother told her about the odd names that we were planning on naming the baby.  We are planning on Alice Wren for a girl and Everett Lawrence for a boy.  I don't think these are odd at all.  I know my mother doesn't like Alice at all but she hasn't said anything about Everett.  Does anyone else think these are odd names?  Not that I'm going to change them on the opinion of a 10-year-old, but I just thought it was strange.

Re: Name Comment

  • No, I don't think they're odd at all. I suppose, though, to some people, if it isn't Andrew or Emma, it's "odd". :)

  • Well i certainly dont think Wren is a common name and could see how it is odd to people...Everett as well.
  • Alice is unusual, but I wouldn't call it odd. Wren, really, is out there unless it's a maiden name.
  • Well Alice has been our girl name for the last 5 years, so I don't think it's odd, but scared it's getting pretty popular:(. I think Wren sounds sweet with it. I also love Everett, nice choice, not odd and not popular.

  • I don't think Everett Lawrence is odd at all.  Maybe a little stranger than something like Christopher or Steven, but not odd exactly.  Alice is also normal in my opinion and I like it though DH nixed it.  Wren is a little out there, but used as a middle name I think it's fine.  I think the middle name can be a little more unique (not youneek).  All in all I like both of your names.

  • First, I think it's rude to comment when you've already chosen your names.  That being said, I think the combinatin of Alice and Wren is a bit odd since I think of Alice as a rather old fashioned, grandma name and Wren as a nouveau trendy one.  I don't see anything odd about Everett Lawrence, even if it's not in the top 10.

Lesson learned, don't share your names until your child is born.

  • that's really manipulative and passive aggressive of your mom to enlist your ten year old cousin into making a comment like that. What's her name, Makayla?

ope you replied to her: "Alice is odd? What about Alice in Wonderland!"

    Agreed.

They're both quite classic names, just not overused these days. What's the big deal?

  • I like your names. If you want odd, we can show you odd...LOL. Those are definitely not strange names!
  • Nope, not odd at all...the only remotely modern one is Wren, but the rest are classics.

I adore that you have Wren and Lawrence as middle names and that one is tucked inside the other...your names are excellent!

    My thoughts exactly!

  • This is the reason why I don't want to tell anyone our names, because I know people cannot help but voice their opinion on baby names, I think it is in our nature.  So DH and I will pick and keep it a secret till the LO arrives.  My mom thought Makenna was a weird name but now admits that Makenna is the perfect name for her granddaughter/my niece.

  • They are nice names
  • They aren't really popular so to some people, they may be odd. I do think Wren is odd.
