hi ladies,
i don't have multiples (our baby lost his twin early in pregnancy), but we'll be trying for a second baby in a couple of years and since i got pregnant with twins the first time i did IVF, it's very possible that i could get pregnant with twins the second time. we're on the market for a good used car that we hope to have for many years, so i want to make sure that the backseat is big enough for three car seats. i thought you ladies might have some suggestions. TIA for any thoughts, and congratulations to all of you on your babies!
Re: what cars are wide enough for three carseats?
with toddler + twins the best way to go is a minivan - the auto-open doors are worth it alone, really... i would go nuts having to open doors when i have 2 kids in my hand + another running around.
but as far as 3 in one back row- most cars will fit them- it's about getting the right seats. If you install with the seatbelt instead of the latch system- you can fit most seats across ---- latch pulls seats towwards the middle and wastes space. it's just as safe with seatbelts, too.
DH has 3 seats across the back of his Ford Escape, which is not big at all. Installed them with seatbelts.
I think it's all about the carseats too. For a convertible seat, I'd invest in a Sunshine Radian. It's super narrow and seems to be the one that's easiest to fit 3 across.
I have googled this to death and found this link useful:

We were really hoping to fit 3 across a car (or at least a station wagon!), but I got stuck at trying to lift an infant seat into the middle seat. My back is just too bad to suspend that much weight, even if just for a little more than year or so until they can climb into a seat themselves.
So sadly we'll be getting a minivan.
this. we have the sunshine radian and they are super narrow. we fit two in the back seat and an adult can sit back there too. i have a crossover. GL.
