Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Really, doc... REALLY??

So I went to my first appointment since DD was born Tuesday and the doctor asked if I've had sex since LO was born. When I told him DH and I had tried but that it was very painful, he replied, "well, keep trying and if it doesn't stop hurting within 6 months, we'll see what we can do."

REALLY??? It's not like I said "yeah we had sex, but it hurt a little," it hurt so bad I made DH stop, even with lube.

Is that pretty normal? I realize our bodies go through trauma during birth, but I'm completely healed, so shouldn't it stop hurting? How bad was the first time you had sex PP and did it get better quickly from there? How long did you wait?

TIA

  • I thought you aren't supposed to have sex, or even deep water baths for 6 weeks

  • It has been 6 weeks, she just worded it weird.

OP, with my first- it hurt a few times and then was better but didn't feel really good until my hormones returned back to normal once I finished BFing.

  • I didn't try having sex until close to 8 weeks after my first and it hurt so much we stopped. We gave it another two weeks and tried again. That time it didn't hurt as much. Eventually it got to be enjoyable again. I think it can be pretty normal depending on the damage done during the birth and your hormone levels after.

  • It took me 7 months to feel completely ok having sex again after having DS. DS was sunny side up coming out, and I had some internal tearing and bladder damage that took awhile to heal. Everyone's body is different. Hopefully it won't take that long for you!

  • We waited 3 weeks PP. We did use a lot of lube and it still took 10 minutes for him to get in. It hurt, but after we had sex maybe 3 times it was really good.

  • im almost 6 months out, got the okay at my 6week appointment, waited untul 8weeks to even try. and it still hurts sometimes (depends on the way we are doing it) i figured i had a regular ob appointment coming up in the new year for routine stuff and renew my birth control that if it still bothered me then i would bring it up.
