swelling in one ankle

Hey ladies.  I'll be 30w tomorrow and normally have had low blood pressure when I go to the doctors.   I noticed today that I had swelling in my right ankle, but not in my left.    I've been laying down for over an hour and have noticed that the swelling seems to be going down.  However, should I be concerned?  Anyone else have this?   I'm not sure if I should call the emergency number or just wait until tomorrow to check with the doctor.   Thoughts?

Re: swelling in one ankle

  • I called my doctor office when I was having bad swelling that wasn't going down. The nurse said that the swelling is normal and may not go down, she was not worried at all. She did say that swelling is a concern if your blood pressure is high or if protein is spilling into your urine. Neither of these were a concern for me. The swelling did go down for me after a day or two. I would say call your doctor on Monday if you are still worried. GL!!
  • My right ankle is always more swollen than my left. ?When it first started to happen, I called, and the nurse asked if I had any pain when I tried to lift my toes up, which I didn't. ?She said that it was okay, and to wear compression hose. ?

I have been wearing compression socks that I bought at CVS, and that seems to help. ?The best thing, though, has been just keeping my feet elevated.

If you're really feeling like something isn't right, go ahead and call the doctor now. ?But, if you think the swelling is going down, tomorrow is probably fine.?

  • You should absolutley go in. Swelling is normal. However, swelling in only one ankle, leg can be very, very serious. You need to go in.
  • I had swelling in just my left leg a couple of weeks ago and some pain behind my left knee.  My peri had me get an ultrasound of my leg to make sure it wasn't a clot, which it wasn't.  So, they do want to know.  I'm sure it's fine.  : )

I would call tonight.  I had this happen and my OB said that swelling in only one leg could mean a clot and to always have it checked out (it wasn't in my case, and it's usually fine.....but it could be, so worth the call).
