We just found out yesterday that we are having a girl! Yay! We have our names narrowed down to 2 first name choices and a few MN choices. All names are special to us for different reasons.
I picked Elinor Marie. My youngest DD is Ellie whom we named after my grandmother Elenore so I love the name. How ever we named her Ellie as I didnt want to shorten her given name or use a nick name. My grandmother was delighted.

Good luck on choosing your little girls name.
Thanks! I've struggled with this as well. Elinor was DH's grandmother's name. If we were to shorten it, it would be to Nora. Like you, I'm not a fan of preconceived nicknames. However, DH feels strongly that if we are going to name her after his grandmother, he wants her to have the formal name Elinor, which I understand.
I too prefer the Eleanor spelling, but you'll be in good company with Jane Austen if you do Elinor
Thank goodness for this. I actually thought that the Elinor spelling was made up until I researched it and found it in several places.
Elinor Dashwood, Sense and Sensibility. Can't get any better than that! I hope you use Elinor somewhere in there.
(1) I think Elinor Catherine sounds beautiful :-) (2) She gets to be respectable and reserved like Elinor Dashwood (3) She gets to be wild and reckless like Catherine Earnshaw from Wuthering Heights. (4) I think all girls want to be these two women ;-)
DDs mn is Johanna, after my grandma, and I think it is such a pretty name. We pronounce it the german way (as my grandma did), which sounds like "Yo-haw-nah." I was set on using this name to honor my grandma and found it difficult to work in with a friend name. I think Elinor Johanna sounds nice. I'm sure my mom wishes I would have chosen that name myself, since my mom's name is Eleanor.
Re: Baby Girl- Clicky Poll
I'm loving Audrey Elinor. Classic, feminine without being too flowery and elegant.
Happy Thanksgiving, love.

DH will be so happy to read this comment! Not that I don't love the name or it wouldn't be on the list, but I think this is his favorite.

I would absolutely go with the Eleanor spelling if it wasn't a family name.

I voted Audrey Marie....'cause I love the French sound of it.

I love love love the name Audrey. We would use it but it's already been used with someone close in our family.
Yay for a little girl!
