2nd Trimester

I need YOUR opinion, please?

Okay mommies and soon to be mommies, I'm stressing out lately about when I should get the baby's crib and nursery furniture. Some say wait, some say it should already be done and others say it's too early.

When did you guys get your nursery furniture and/or have your nursery completed? I was planning on getting everything around 28-30 weeks, I'm 22 weeks now. What do you guys think?

Re: I need YOUR opinion, please?

  • I'm personally keeping an eye out for sales and if I see the set I want that's when I'm going to buy it.  I don't think there is a good time or bad time to buy the furniture.

  • It depends on what crib you want. The cribs we are getting will talk 8-10 weeks to come in. First find out what crib you want and if it is in stock (and kept in stock). If you can wait, it's fine. Otherwise, you might want to order it sooner,

  • I haven't gotten it yet but think I'll start getting it together over my winter break, (I'm a teacher so I'll have a nice chunk of time off) . I want to have time to get it together and not feel rushed.  I actually think I'm going to use my old crib, if it passes the safety test.  We're still painting the trim so we have to finish that before we start anything.

  • We will order our crib after the anatomy scan next week, assuming all goes well. I am not emotionally ready to do it before then.
  • we bought the crib last time at 27 weeks. We hadn't started working on the nursery before Aidan was born.

  • We have had our crib for about 2 ish weeks.  We were going to wait, but we found a crib that was exactly what we wanted and on an incredible sale.  If you are ready, know what you want, then I say get started.

  • We got all our nursery furniture used or used something we already had. The crib was my neices who it 2 now. We refinished all the furniture to match.

We still have a lot of work to do in the nursey. See those naked walls. Nursey bedding that my mom will be making ect ect.

  • I didn't have everything for DD1 until I was 8 months.  Not a big deal.  I prefer having things set up ahead of time, just makes things a little simpler so you're not rushing.  This time, the nursery itself won't be set up until after school lets out for summer, so we can move the 2 older kids into the same room (they'll both be in pre-k next year rather than only 1 of them like this year).  So all we have set up for now is the pack'n'play for our room for this baby to sleep in since she'll be with us for about 2 1/2 months.

Personally, I think if you are ready to start now, start now.  If you don't have everything, watch for sales.

  • Thanks so much for the feedback guys :)

Hopefully there will be some nice black friday and Christmas sales going on in the next month.

  • We got ours today, so 24 weeks.
  • Order now. We ordered before 20 weeks and got our furniture (which was later backordered) just before the baby came. It was so stressful!

    Why not order now?

  • DH and I got our nursery things together as soon as we were able to. (We moved to another state) Anyways, we probably would have waited until around 32 or so weeks if this pregnancy were going more smoothly.
  • I would be ordering sometime between now and two weeks from today if you want the nursery finished by 30 weeks.  It does take time for most nursery furniture to arrive for pickup/delivery, and with your timetable I think you'll be more comfortable knowing that it's on its way.
  • My MIL bought one for us at 11 weeks because she won't be able to come to any shower I might get later. Its just hanging out in the box in the basement for now. That's the only thing we have for our nursery. I don't think its too early at this point for you. But that's just me.

  • i used to work in the furniture department in BRU so i'm pretty picky. I wouldn't just look for sales. a lot of brands have recalls and not only is it unsafe, it's a pain in the @ss to deal with. at BRU, the only brands I would recommend are Babi Italia (i have one) and Baby cache
  • It really doesn't matter when, as long as it's before the baby comes. We got a great deal on a crib/ changing table so we bought them before we were even ready to get pregnant~!

  • We purchased our furniture at 18 weeks for a couple of reasons.  1.  It took 6-8 weeks to deliver (I have had friends whose furniture was back ordered as far as 4 months) and 2.  There was an amazing sale.  Believe me it is not too early and if you find something you like just get it.  It will be a huge relief to you to check it off your list:).

  • We jumped on an awesome deal and ordered our crib and dresser at 10 weeks and it took 10 weeks to come in. I had fun putting it together at 20 weeks (I'm always the one in the family to put things together) and was able to help move things around, but probably wouldn't be able to much longer. We got our glider a couple weeks after the crib came in, and our nursery is pretty much done.

  • I'm going crib shopping when I'm in a bigger city in a couple weeks - mostly because they have an IKEA and that's what we decided to go with.

If you end up having to wait on an order, it can easily take 8-10 weeks to show up. Lots of baby/furniture stores have to order everything after you buy.

    This exactly!!!

We ordered our crib about 3 weeks ago, expecting an 8-10 week delay in getting it in (early January!) but they called today to say it was in!!!  So you never know, but personally, I'd rather do the setting up and organizing when I'm a bit smallar and hopefully not as tired as I'll be later!!
