Trying to Get Pregnant

Clomid Question

Good morning, Ladies!  I have a question.  I'm heading to the doctor's the first week of December for a check up since we haven't gotten pregnant yet.  I'm concerned about the doctor putting me on clomid.  So, I'm wondering if someone can share with me the reasons they have been put on Clomid and any side affects you may be having.  Thank you for the information!!

Re: Clomid Question

  • I'm on Clomid b/c I have weak and irregular ovulation.  This was my 2nd cycle on it and I haven't had any negative side effects.

    GL to you!

  • I have a weak ovulation and a late ovulation, typically.  Ttc for a year so it was the next step.  We definitely had some testing done first, most important was the HSG to make sure all was clear (bc if your tubes aren't clear, I didn't see the point in Clomid...)

I took 100mg days 4 through 8.  Night sweats and extremely bad headaches for about 3 days.  VERY tired for about 6 days.  Emotional, but I don't know how much of that was because of the Clomid.

    GL to you hon.

  • I'm on my fourth cycle because, well, I haven't been able to get pregnant yet.  My R.E. is hoping Clomid will stimulate more follicles/eggs so it will raise my chances of conceiving a little bit (13% chance every Clomid cycle).

As far as testing/monitoring goes, I have had a lap, HSG, CD3 BW, CD21 BW, 7DPO BW, thyroid testing and ultrasounds (which I really had to push for!)

My side effects have been mood swings, cramping and hot flashes.  I'm on 50mg, CD 3 - 7.

    TTC since August 2009
    June/July 2011 - IVF #1 - Transfer cancelled due to OHSS
23 perfect embryos. All 23 made it to freezing!
    September/October - FET #1 - October 12th - 2 Grade A embies
    October 20th - BFP??! EDD - July 1, 2012
    Beta #1 = 154, Beta #2 = 352 Beta #3 = 3,800

  • Actually, I forgot a huge s/e - Clomid made my lining VERY thin.  I'm now on the estrogen patch and might even due estrace because of the severely thin lining.  So although Clomid worked to grow my follicles (I have 1 large, 2 medium, and 1 smaller as of CD12), it thinned my lining so much that without estrogen therapy to thicken it, it probably wouldn't be thick enough to sustain a pg or allow for implantation.

  • I have PCOS, and am on my second cycle of Clomid. First round I had no response at 50 mg, and no side effects that I can remember. This cycle (100mg), I had Provera night sweats, followed by Clomid night sweats. I am on cd19, and am still having some overheating issues at night. It looks like I didn't respond this month either, only time will tell. I have not had any other side effects though.

  • I'm so glad someone posted this. I have been thinking the same thing since I am on Provera for the 4th time in the soon to be 11 months of TTC. I can go a year or so and never get AF but if I take Provera I always get AF on the 10th or 11th day. I am getting ready to take clomid as soon as AF arrives which should be tomorrow and then clomid 3 days later. Therefore, I can't help you with the side effects but I would like to thank all of you for posting so I can have an idea of what I might expect. I am hoping Clomid doesn't thin my lining out b/c when I was tested in May to see how thick my lining was, keep in mind that at that point in time my last AF was Feb. 1st, my lining was a 4. However, all tests have shown that I look to be ok. No thyroid problems, sugars seem to be normal, however my testosterone and pretestosterone are double what they should be. My gyno thinks I am not Oing on my own so that's why he is putting me on clomid. We shall see. Thanks again for the great post and for everyones feedback.

  • I am on my first clomid cycle for a short luteal phase and (knock on wood) haven't had any side effects. Good luck!

  • Thanks for all of the information!  So helpful.....I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating every month and I have only had blood work done at this point.  I had to push my doctor to have it done but I really didn't see what it would hurt.  All of that came back normal as did DH's S/A.  So, we'll see what the doctor says on 12/08!  Thanks for the advice, Ladies!!  Big Smile Gobble Gobble.....

  • I was put on Clomid because I was not ovulating.  I took it for 3 cycles with no luck and from there my doctor decided to try Femara so that is what i'm taking now.  I did not have any side affects from it.  Hope it works for you.  Good luck with everything!
