Is it really possible to be allergic to pears?!

This is the second time in a row that Declan has tried pears, hated them, and then gotten a terrible rash the next day.  Could that mean he's allergic?  I thought they were one of the LEAST allergenic foods?

This kid's digestive system just loves to keep me on my toes!

  • Oh, poor guy! Hope it's something he would grow out of.

  • It could be a sensitivity. I gave DS peaches early on (so about a month ago) and he got a rash after them (several times). I stopped them and just tried again yesterday and today. He has been fine. So maybe he'll grow out of it

This. It's probably just a sensitivity to the acid in the fruit. DD was like that with peaches and apples for a while. Poor little guy :( I hope he grows out of it.
  • Yeah, pears are a part of most TEDs because they're very low on the allergen spectrum. I say try again in a couple months and see what happens. GL!!

  • can he eat other fruits? My neice has had a lot of digestive issues, and they tested her to see if she was allergic to fructose or pectins or something really common like that (she wasn't).

    GL!

Yep, he LOVES peaches, likes apples (I haven't tried cooking them first to see if he loves them if they're softer) and downs bananas like nobody's business.  I am thinking of consulting an allergist at this point.

  • It could be the pesticides in/on the pears.  Pears are one of the worst for pesticides.  Unless they were organic and well washed... then I don't know!
  • T can't eat apples, still, without a rash breakout. My SIL can't eat raw fruit or veggies with hives in her mouth and throat.
