I love him and he's a very hands-on father and husband but he has absolutely no idea how much work it takes (i.e. that I am doing) to get the house ready for Thanksgiving.
He keeps saying he is going to help me and then he doesn't. When he does try to help he asks me a billion times what he should do and I point him in the direction of the 2 page list. Then he does 1 thing that takes FOREVER while the kids are making messes right behind me.
When I get frustrated he says he doesn't get why I'm trying to clean now. He keeps asking me why I don't just wait until Wednesday after the kids go to bed to pick up. He doesn't get that I'm trying to do a deep clean and not the typical pick up that we normally do. For the love of pete, I have a list. It's 2 pages long. Look at the list and see that I'm washing windows, wiping woodwork, cleaning the appliances with stainless steel cleaner, trying to find all the kitchen dishes that are normally in storage, etc, etc, etc.
GAH!! I just had to get that out! I'll be much happier when Friday gets here! Now back to work.....
Re: DH just doesn't get it.
What, like my DH who took the day off to 'help' and has done nothing but take out the trash and take DS to preschool?
Oh, and take a nap and sit on the couch watching TV.
We leave at 6am tomorrow, and I have been running since 7am today. I haven't even started packing yet.
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
I'm right there with you. DH works until 8pm tonight and the SECOND that he walks in the door I need to run back to TRU for my cousin and then the grocery store to get everything that I need to cook for Thanksgiving (we host DH's family every year).
Tomorrow DH works from 9am until 8pm as well. So it's pretty much me around here. I'm really not doing anything SUPER to clean up; if his family doesn't like how I keep house they don't have to come here.
