Baby Names

WDYT of Rachel?

H said this name to me this morning and its one of the first ones we could agree on.

I like how it crosses genreations. I know elderly people and a toddler with that name.

It's also simple and classy as a result I think.

He also mentioned Delaney. I know H has always loved that name but I don't think I can get on board. However, the more I think about it, the more I like the nicknames that come from it.

Thoughts?

Re: WDYT of Rachel?

  • I love the name Rachel. It is so simple and classic. Timeless, biblical, great name.

I'm also starting to like Delaney more and more. I think the nn Laney is so cute.

  • I think Rachel is a beautiful name. I think it's very classic.   It was on our short list but we're having a boy.

  • Rachel is a gorgeous, timeless, Biblical name. :) I love it.

Delaney is just horrendous. I wouldn't get on board with that, either.

  • I can't help but think of 'Friends'. I don't have anything against the name, it isn't a bad one, but I don't think I could ever name my child Rachel just because of the TV show. Also, I just feel it is a very plain name. *shrug* NMS, but it isn't a bad name.

Haha. I always tought Delaney was horrendous too but he just loves it. Probably won't be happening as a name in our household but he likes Della and Laney as nicknames and that I can get on board with.

  • Love Rachel...for obvious reasons...it's my name.  I've always liked my name; I was the only Rachel in any of my classes growning up.  Never got confused with Rachel D. or Rachel L.

  • I have no strong feelings for or against Rachel but I do find it a little boring, but perhaps that's just because it's NMS.

I do really like Delaney though.

  • I really like Rachel!  Lovely yet strong name, and as you said, it crosses generations.  I find it odd that some people associate it with Friends so strongly.  It'd be like throwing out the classic, very common name Jack just because it reminds me of Lost.

Anyway, I don't really like Delaney...I find it awkward to say for some reason.

  • Don't really care for Rachel.  I don't think Delaney is horrendous at all.  I love it.  It's one of the ones at the top of our list, but everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
  • I love Rachel. It is on DH and my long list. Classic, Biblical name that isn't used very much anymore.

    I really dislike Delaney.

  • Very plain. I think of Friends as well. Delaney is pretty AND original. That is my goal when we pick our names. Something original. But, not tooo crazy.
  • I LOVE IT! ( it is my DD's name, lol) It is not very common, but not a "weird" off the wall type of name, which I love.

Of course, now my DH jokes that this baby #2 will be Monica if it is a girl, and Ross if it is a boy. Dork.

  • I really like both names. Rachel is classic, and I used to care for a toddler named Delaney that we called Laney. When I first saw her name, I didn't like it, but I loved the nn.
