Breast tenderness and exercise

Anyone else having a hard time exercising because of their sore boobs?! I am a runner but even with two sports bras on it is quite painful to run. Even yoga is hard. I don't know how normal this amount of soreness is because I had a breast reduction a few years ago. Any suggestions for bras/help would be much appreciated!

  • Sports bras aren't going to give you the support you really need, they just flatten you out and don't stop you from moving around.  Time to buy a new bra, something with a lot of support.  It will dissapate eventually but you might as well get something nice and supportive now b/c you're going to need it as they get bigger (and your chest gets wider) later on in pregnancy.

  • I am having a hard time with yoga. I am still early enough that I can be on my belly for a short period of time, but, ouch!

  • I adore my Moving Comfort bra.  I have the Fiona model and it's been wonderful.

It was spendy but totally worth it!  I was only able to afford one sports bra after DS was born.  The adjustable straps and band were great for growing and shrinking with me (and it allowed me to comfortably BF prerace).  Plus, I've used it exclusively for over a year and the quality has really stood up.

Here's an article about how to make sure you're getting a proper fit:  https://www.runnersworld.com/article/1,7124,s6-238-275--12028-0,00.html

And another about maternity running gear in general:

btw, splurge and get a BOB stroller, you won't be disappointed  :)

  • I'm pre-pregnancy a DD cup so I'm use to construction grade bras already, but when they were super super sensitive (mostly nipples) and just ached, sports bras were very helpful around home and everyday stuff. They did, however end up making my shoulders and back hurt more but we trade off, right? Now that they are just bigger and ache (not sensitive), I've found regular bras are more helpful again.

For running, maybe look for a sports bra with built in support (more like a regular bra). I have one with under wire and everything which is very comfortable as well as super supportive which I wore pre-pregnancy all the time at the gym.

Actually, the technology behind sports bras has come a long way in the past few years.  If you go to a good running store (not something like Target or even D!ck's), they have a lot of bras that encapsulate and work with your body instead of the old smashed down uni-boob  :)

  • Thanks ladies for all the responses. I have a variety of really great sport bras but I think I am going to try one out specifically for pregnant runners. I may just have to deal with it ;-)
