Best carseats for a 4 and 2 y.o.?

Sorry, I know this is talked about all the time, but I thought I was done with buying carseats, so I never opened those posts!

I was in an accident last month and thanks to the post below, I realize that even though my airbag didn't go off, the seats in my car need to be replaced.  I asked the officer at the accident site if they needed to be and that was his criteria, but I see now he was wrong.

I am leaning towards two Britax Frontiers.  I am replacing a Marathon and Nautilus.  I liked my Nautilus ok, but the crotch strap was a pain and the straps twisted on me.  I loved the Marathon, but am thinking may be the time to move up to the next seat.  Sam is 42" tall and 40 lbs and Max is 30 lbs and 36" tall.

Any thoughts or recs?

  • I just bought DS an Evenflo Maestro. GHM said that it has a better chance of being a good booster when the time comes. It harnesses to 50 lbs with a seated harness height of 18" (same as the Nautilus). DS is just under 44" and is 40-41 lbs. It was a whopping $80 and I found a $5 off coupon on the Evenflo site.

  • I have a Nautilus and Marathon for mine.  But, DD fits in the Nautilus really well, so I really like it.  By the time DS needs the Nautilus for height/weight, DD will be in a regular $25 booster seat.  So, I guess I am not much help for your situation!

  • I think I'm going to replace my Britax Marathon with a Frontier the next time BRU has the trade in event.
  • If a frontier is in your budget, go for it! I personally would get a seat like the sunshine kids radian for your barely-2 year old and rear face him for at least another year. It makes an excellent forward facing seat, and will last virtually all children to booster size/age.
  • Coming in late here, but I bought the Britax Frontier for Ava a few months ago, and I love the seat! I had her go to BRU with me and sit in both the Nauti and Frontier, and the Frontier just felt sturdier to me.  She was in the Roundabout prior to that, and I was always pleased with the Britax's.

  • I'm not sure if you're referring to my post below or not ( haven't scrolled down.)  But, I ended up buying my 3.5 yr old dd the frontier and my 20mth old ds a radian xtsl.  I'm replacing a blvd (dd's seat) and a marathon (ds's seat.)

    hth!
