P90X...?

okay..has anyone done it? how much does it cost? does it actually work as good as they claim? how user friendly is it for beginners? I never really have worked out routinely before but need to get my PP arse back in shape! TIA!

Re: P90X...?

  • I don't have personal experience but my uncle is.in his forties and he does it and looks amazing. Seriously has a six pack now.

  • I did 2 cycles of it, PP.  I can't remember how much I paid for it but got it on Ebay for less than the regular price - check there.

I loved it.  Results were evident after the first month, though, I could feel changes after about 2 weeks - feeling stronger, etc.  Just like any new workout, I was very sore the first week.  The major results came later, but were definitely apparent.  The first cycle, I did exactly to spec.  The second, I switched Cardio in place of Plyo...I was getting lazy ;-)

It's very simple as far as overall difficulty goes.  You track your progress, so you can start with lighter weight, fewer reps, etc...and move up as you progress.  If I'd never worked out before, I probably would've had a slower start - it is pretty intense for an at-home workout.  Totally do-able though.  If you can commit the 1-1.75 hrs a day (see, it's not bad!), I'd say give it a shot.

    Good luck!

  •  If you've never done at-home work outs and are kind of out of shape to begin with, it might be good to start with the less intense Power 90 (the predecessor of P90X). I had been doing various exercise DVD's pretty regularly for a couple years when I started P90X and I definitely struggled to keep up in the beginning. You will be more likely to stick to a workout that you can do.

Don't forget to check with your doctor first, too, even if you've been cleared to resume regular physical activity, P90X is really strenuous. Even though I was doing it PP, I will ease back into several weeks of light cardio and weightlifting before I start with P90X again.

  • We ordered it straight from the website so it was about $140.  It does work.  None of the techniques are really difficult it is just intense.  I didn't start it until I had completed the 30 Day Shred PP and I'm glad I did that first.  It got me back in a routine and gave me a good foundation to jump into P90X.  DH & I are both doing it together and we're actually having a lot of fun with it.  I get bored easily with work out videos but it changes it up enough to keep me interested.

  • I did P90X when DS#1 was about 10 mos. old.  It is a time committment each day (1 hour to 90 minutes per day).  At that point, he was reliably taking a 2 hr nap in the mornings so I kept up with it.  Let me just say...it is really tough!  But, if you follow the program you will absolutely see results.  It depends on what your fitness level is before you begin.  If you've never worked out regularly or haven't in a long time, it's going to be rough.  They show some alternative moves for beginners but it would still be tough.  I hadn't worked out regularly since DS#1's birth so I did Jillian Michaels 30 day shred first (only 30 min per day) and then dove into P90X.  Good luck to you!  I can't wait to start it again but have to wait until our new little guy is napping a little more regularly.

  • I know a lot of people that have used it and you will get results from it if you take it seriously and don't be a wuss about it. It is difficult but that's why you get results. When it comes to getting into shape there is no easy way to do it... no magic pill, no effortless workout ... you just have to work out. So if you will take it seriously and actually do the work out then yes, it is worth it but if not then i wouldn't get it cus it is pretty pricey. I'm not sure about how much it costs but I think it's about $200 (I could be wrong).
Sometimes it's okay to follow. (Picture is a clicky)

There in-lies the problem I was afraid of.

DD doesn't nap much at all during the day and when she does its usually only 45 minutes or so. I think I will just go back to my regular routine and wait to try P90X. Thanks!
