Sick Baby - when to take him in?

So baby boy is sick. He started coughing last night when he was sleeping, he's has a very wet cough, boogies, has been grumpy and you can definitely tell he's not feeling well. The dr said to bring him in if his temp goes over 102, if it goes over 100.4 I can give him tylenol. He nursed and napped around 5pm. At 6 we checked his temp and it was 100.7 so we gave him some tylenol. A few minutes ago he started coughing and threw up. It's from the mucus right? He's acting fine now. Should we still wait to see if his temperature goes up? Or should we think about taking him in?

Re: Sick Baby - when to take him in?

  • I'm not a mom or a medical person but I would think that his throwing up is actually good.  If he's so snotty (sorry...best way for me to say it) he's probably swallowing alot of it, right?  So, if he's throwing it up it's not in his stomach any more.  I would think that would make him feel better.  I'd say just wait to see if it goes up.

Just my .02.  Sorry you have a sick little one.  It seems like there are alot right now. Sad

  • Jack alllllways throws up when he has drainage. It's a given. If his cough is productive and he's not having breathing trouble, I'd just stick w/ the tylenol and keep monitoring him.

  • Aww, poor baby! I think something is going around. Leo was sick over the weekend and now Charlie is. I would just keep up with the Tylenol (is he too young for motrin?) and keep checking his temp, for now. And make sure he gets plenty of fluids, poor thing!

Honestly though, I tend to be a worrying and I take them in when I don't really need to. If it's worth the copay to you, it really can't hurt. Also, it just occurred to me that with the holiday coming up this week it might be a good idea to take him in now, versus Thursday morning...

  • His fever started to go down before bed. He's been up a couple of times and I'm sure it will be a long night. I'll take him to the doctor in the morning just to be on the safe side. I figured throwing up was just from the snot, just wanted to make sure. Thanks ladies!
