    I was thinking the same thing about FMLA - I could understand why they would want you to fill out paper work if they are going to designate it FMLA leave (so your job is protected). Otherwise, it seems kind-of lame.

    I didn't think fmla kicked in until you had already been out 5 days. Or maybe that's just the policy at my company.
