Trying to Get Pregnant

Anyone ever have a high-grade abnormal pap?

I just got the news from my OB/GYN today.  I have to go in Dec. 14 for a colposcopy and biopsy and then depending on the results I may have to have  LEEP.  They told me we should try to avoid until the biopsy results so I'm pretty bummed.  Although it may not matter since I have long cycles anyway.  Anyone ever have to go through this and willing to share your experience with me?  The more I Google the better I feel about it (seems fairly common), but I am a little freaked out.

Re: Anyone ever have a high-grade abnormal pap?

  • I had a low grade abnormal pap and had to do the colposcopy. It was not big deal. It didnt hurt at all. He did not do a biopsy and just said he would watch the spot he saw. I have to do paps now every 6 months instead of every year. I wish you luck with yours and keep us updated.

  • I just went in for my 6 month check up after my LEEP. And all is clear.  My mom had one 27 years ago and she was and is fine.  It's more the waiting game then the actual proceedures.  The biopsy hurts a bit but not to bad.  And in Ontario they knock you out for the LEEP so I didn't feel a thing. The worst part for me was that I spotted for about 3 weeks really light but it still sucked.  If you need any other help PM me or just find me on here.

Hugs and Hoping you all the best

  • I have had the colpo and the biopsy. CIN I-II. Mild moderate was found. I have an appt with my Ob/Gyn on Dec 15 for my 3rd follow up pap. if there are mild changes they will have to do a LEEP Cone biopsy. They told me the last time I was in that it was safe at the time to TTC. So here I am. : )  I have 31 day cycles. Not too long but long enough. I know about the feeling of being freaked out.  GL and I hope everything turns out good for you!

  • I had a colposcopy a few years ago. It was slightly uncomfortable during (could feel the pinching on my cervix) and I had a little cramping that felt like AF for the rest of the day. No big deal.

Hopefully this isn't TMI (but since you asked) there was some grossness that came out for the next couple of days. It wasn't painful, just some tissue from the spots that were healing. I wore a pantyliner for two days and was fine.

Afterwards, I did a pap every three months for year, just to be sure everything was safe and sound.

  • I have. The colposcopy isn't bad, a bit more then the pinch they tell you. They had to do some cauterizing on me since I kept bleeding but that wasn't awful either. I have had 2 LEEP's which are pretty easy though they did mine in outpatient surgery at one of the local hospitals so you get narcotics while you're there making you feel great. To make a long story short, I had to go to my OB/GYN every 4 months for coloposcopies for a year after all the procedures til everything turned out clean. Then it was 6 months for a year. NOw I go back once a year. The doc says I'll need some stitches in my cervix when I do become pregnant since there's not much left but that's all.

    Good luck!

  • You ladies are making me feel so much better.  THANK YOU!  I know I probably don't have anything to worry about but maybe it will be nice to worry about something else besides TTC for a change Stick out tongue

I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself asking questions about LEEP but I was wondering...if you don't mind answering...do you think it affected your CM?  TIA!

I had a high-grade abnormal pap, and had to have a Leep procedure about 3 years ago. The procedure does not hurt at all, maybe just some discomfort. However, since then I never have EWCM. I have creamy, but it never goes to EW. We just use pre-seed to help. Good luck to you.

  • Lurker coming out here....

I had severe cervical dysplasia two years ago (diagnosed with multiple colopscopies and biopsys) and had to have a LEEP procedure to have the cells removed.  The colopscopies were mildly uncomfortable, the biopsys were more than the pinch that they told me they would be and I had some mild cramping for the rest of the day after each one but they weren't terrible.  For the LEEP procedure I was knocked out, it was done as a day surgery.  After the LEEP I had some cramping for a couple of days and some really icky discharge for a couple of weeks but it definitly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

The specialist how did my procedure explained that since I was having a large area treated that it would affect my CM and that when we did get pregnant that I would probably need a cerclage (I will be closely monitored).

    HTH! Good luck!

  • Thanks girls.  I really feel much better after hearing your stories.  I hope you all get your BFPs soon!

  • I've actually never had a normal pap and I have had biopsies and colposcopies every 6 months for the past 5 years.

I got pg with ds after a LEEP and and now TTC #2 after a surgery to remove 25% of my cervix.
