Bassinet on the Floor?

I was given a bassinet by my MIL. It's cute but there's no stand so it would have to sit on the floor by our bed if that's what we chose to use. What do you think about this? In my head it makes me uncomfortable. Our pets aren't allowed in our room at night so this wouldn't be an issue, I'm just afraid I would get up and accidentally step on the baby or something. Is this a reasonable fear or am I over analyzing it?

Re: Bassinet on the Floor?

  • It sounds like a moses basket rather then a bassinet to me. I would use it maybe in the living room or somewhere common that you will be during the day. Instead of having it next to the bed.

Yeah I guess it would be a moses basket. Would you use something else for the bedroom then?

  • It does sound like a Moses Basket. I plan to use it during the day, around the house kind of thing. I don't think I would feel comfortable with baby sleeping in it all night, though. JMHO.

But, they can be nice to have to move from room to room or up/down multi-levels since they are so lightweight and easy to move.

I would just set the moses basket on a side table by the bed, or on 2 chairs. I wouldn't want it on the floor either.

I would get either a co-sleeper, bassinet, or even a Pack N' Play for the bedroom.

  • I would think it would be cold and drafty on the floor.

  • You can buy a stand for like $50 on Amazon, that's what we plan to do.

  • I would not put it on the floor, but I would be fearful of tripping over it.  We do let our pets in our room at night, one of them sleeps on the bed.  And while I doubt they would mess with her in the basket, I do know that there have been times that I have tripped over one on my way to the potty.  Let me just say, tripping over Jolie (12 year old Shih Tzu/Poodle) is never fun, because she will nip to let you know she is not a fan of being kicked awake.
