2nd Trimester

Is there a vibrator in my stomach?

So, periodically throughout the day I've felt something I can really only describe as a vibrator in my uterous. It's definitely in my uterous, definitely not gas or my stomach growling....but it's rumbly-feeling, not bumping or tapping feeling. ???
I haven't had much, hardly no, baby movement yet, so I'm not sure if this is baby or what but it's happened several times so I know it's not in my head anymore.

Is the kid spinning in circles or using a jackhammer or something?

Re: Is there a vibrator in my stomach?

  • I can't remember how early babies have hiccups, but that is what it felt like when my kid had them (it started around 30 weeks for me).

  • Sounds like baby to me!  I described the feeling as a butterfly flapping its wings against my ute, but the vibrator thing works too.

  • I and several other bumpies have what I call vibrating vagina.  It is a vibrating feeling inside (not outside or sexual/pleasurable).  Several doctors confirmed that the sensation was caused by blood flow to your uterus and/or vagina.  My doctor said that sometimes the position of the baby causes some turbulence which causes the vibrating feeling from blood flowing.  This may be what you are feeling.

  • I have this too!!!! It's always in the lower left-hand quadrant and there is no way that it's a kick.  Hiccups I guess but I have never seen anybody hiccup that fast.  I guess fetuses just go fast?
  • So many possibilities! Well....I just had my ultra sound yesterday, and everything is normal and good to go, so I'm not worried, but it sure is making me curious!

  • I have this too! I find that if I move positions it stops most of the time. I told my mom I feel like my phone is on vibrate and that I somehow got it lost in my uterus and someone is calling me. If I put my hand down there I don't feel it . I really dont think it is hiccups either. The baby would have to be hiccuping faster than I am breathing (it is literally as fast as a vibrator!). I am interested to hear if a doctor has told anyone what it is exactly. The blood thing might be it but i didn't really understand what was ment by it.

I did not go into great detail with my doctor about.  The impression I got was that the vibrating sensation is just a surge of blood - the pace and pressure of the blod flow is what causes the sensation.  Nothing to worry about from what he told me.

  • I have this too, but much higher than where I feel the baby. I described it to my hubby as like when you have a bad cold and a lot of chest congestion... you know when you take a deep breath in, and you feel that gurgling vibrating? like that, but not in my lungs or chest. It's like i swallowed my cell phone!

  • The last 2 days I have had this vibrating thing too, it goes off and on all day. It's not a good or bad feeling it is just sort of annoying. If its not one thing it's another I guess...sigh..
  • Yes!  I had the same feeling.  I would describe it as a cell phone vibrating in my stomach. :D
  • Could be hiccups or it could be the moro reflex.

I felt DD have the moro reflex once a day but that was late 3rd trimester. I had exactly what you described and asked my OB and he told me about the Moro reflex (https://wondertime.go.com/learning/article/the-baby-startle-reflex.html)

Not sure if the baby is big enough for you to feel it at 20 weeks but I am sure it is possible.
