ASK magazine?

My SIL tells me that my 7 year old niece loves reading, and has lately become fascinated by science/nature.  In trying to apply this to a Christmas gift idea, I was thinking about getting her a subscription to a kids science-themed magazine. 

I've heard National Geographic for Kids isn't so good, but I've heard good things about ASK.  Has anyone had any experience with ASK magazine?  It's supposed to be geared towards her age group.

 

ETA:.. is there a better place for me to ask this?  I'm not familiar with Bump boards.

When I was a kid I loved Highlights magazine. They now have a younger version of it called High Five I think or something like that. Anyway, that one was awesome. I've never head of ASK magazine.
