Memorable gifts from parents for boys?

We always give ML a piece of jewelry for Christmas, something she can appreciate now but also keep and wear hopefully even when she's older.  But, there really isn't anything I can think of for boys.  I want it to be something he would actually like and use, not like money, because what 2 year old cares about that?  For his first Christmas, we gave him a book we all signed, which I put away to give to him when he's older, but last year, there was nothing.  

Any ideas?
