colic and a sleeping question

so E cries or fusses pretty much all day and then at night he SCREAMS for hours on end. Pretty sure it is colic, is there any thing I can do to help him out? (I know I posted this before but I need more advice!)

Also, the last 2 nights he has fallen asleep on me and ended up sleeping the whole night (~6 hrs) right next to me, on his side. I really don't want him to sleep in bed with us so is there anyway I can simulate that feeling for him? It seems to be the only way he sleeps for any long period of time.

Re: colic and a sleeping question

  • We had some success using a sleep positioner with Evan that allwoed us to put him on his side. It helped with the reflux and made him feel more secure.

Sadly, we didn't get 5-6 hours of straight sleep until he was 2 1/2 months old. I hope you have better luck and get some sleep soon.

Dx: PCOS and short luteal phase
18 cycles (3 with our RE) - Metformin + Clomid + HCG booster did the trick!

  • Does he respond to white noise, swaddling, swinging, etc?  DS1 was colicky but did not scream in the middle of the night.  You might want to see if something more may be bothering him (maybe reflux or milk allergy?).

he does respond to all these things but only for a few minutes. i'm giving him through sunday on the similac for fussiness and gas and if it isn't better I am taking him to the doc.

last night he fell asleep around 1130 and stayed asleep until 730 am...after screaming for about 3 hours before hand. i'm grateful for the long stretches of sleep but wish we didn't have to go through the screaming to get there.

  • Does you BF or is he on formula?

DS was the same way and is BF.  I cut out all dairy from my diet and started giving him 1 bottle of Enfamil Nutramigen at night.  After about a week he stopped crying at night and started STTN (well, he goes 6-10 hours a night).

ETA: We also give him a bath and then use the Aveno lavender lotion on him at the same time every night.  Then we swaddle him using the Halo sleep sack swaddler and he sleeps in his Fisher Price Sleep and Play.

formula. similac sensitive for fussiness and gas started tuesday. he just isnt a happy baby most of the time :(

  • Our daughter was the same way! I remember the 2nd day after bringing her home from the hospital, she just started screaming at the top of her lungs and wouldn't stop! I was BF, so I decided to cut out dairy (didnt work) then we tried a variety of formulas (didnt work). I felt so bad! When I would drop her off in the church nursery, they would ask me "whats wrong with her! She sounds like she is in pain!" I believe it was a combination of gass and acid reflux. She is now 5 months old and is a happy baby! I put her on Gerber good start (which she's doing well on). I know you dont want to here this, but it might just take time. Everyone told me that she would just all of a sudden grow out of it! Around 4 months, she did! I would try different things to see if something will work for him. That's what we did...also try Gripe water. It seemed to help with her gas.
