Cloth Diapering

overnight question

I've just started working on my stash and DH and I are planning on using pf and covers.  I keep seeing posts about overnight diapers and leaking problems etc., but from what I understand I won't have to worry about this right away.

I plan on BF and assume I will be up every few hours and will change dipes after every feeding right?  So this is not something you have to worry about until baby starts to STTN?  Am I correct or way off base here?

Also, this might be a dumb question... if you are using pf's and have a issue with the diapers being too wet, can you not just use two pf's inside a cover?  or would that be too bulky?  (I have zero experience here)

TIA!

Re: overnight question

  • Sounds like you know what you're talking about. I breastfeed my DD exclusively and during the newborn stage I was changing diapers around the clock.

I have never doubled up on prefolds. I have read that some people tri-fold and tuck or lay a tri-folded prefold inside another prefold. You could also buy tiny doublers if you find you need extra absorbancy? Although, like you said you will be constantly changing.

I don't know if you've bought a stash yet but GMD has excellent pre-folds and loads of information on their site!

  • Correct. Generally speaking, you'll likely be up every couple hours or so anyway.

You could try 2 PFs, or get some doublers to try as well.
