bumpers

Now that Caroline rolls over, do I have to take the bumpers out?  I can't remember when you're not supposed to have them in the crib.

BTW, I'm terrified of her rolling over during the night now.  I'm probably going to check on her a million times tonight.

Re: bumpers

  • We use the breathable bumpers, however the only downside is that they arent as padded, A's hit his head against the rails a few times (no crying) it just sounds like it hurts.

  • I would take them out, but once Briley started rolling well both ways I put them back.  I figured she could move around well enough at that point to get away from them if she wanted, and it would prevent her from bumping her head.  She sometimes sleeps up against the side of the crib now but never with her face toward the bumpers.  Also, she pulled up in the crib today and then fell down, and I was really glad the bumpers were there because she hit her head on them!

ETA:  I think the official answer is that you are not supposed to use them at all, but I felt comfortable using them once she rolled well both ways.

  • Even though Hayden initially rolled over around 3 months, she didn't try to do it in bed for some time. Hopefully that will give you some peace of mind. IMHO, I don't see the need for bumpers, so I would take them out anyways. :-)
  • As soon as Gavin started rolling over I freaked out and immediately took the bumpers out.  It took about five minutes for his chunky little leg to get caught in the crib railings the next time I put him down and he was crying out.  I put them right back on!  He has always liked to sleep up next to them and he still does.  We use the Angel Care monitor so I guess that also gives me a little peace of mind
  • Natalee, I think that it is up to you.  I still have Ava's in and I never took them out for Mya.
