TTC After a Loss

What can you add to Mac&Cheese?

Anyone have any idea? I'm making just plain ol' Kraft M&C, and I kind of want to and something too it..I was thinking of adding some breadcrumbs for texture. But what else? I would add some browned ground beef, but I don't have any (or chicken). How about a vege, like peas? Does that sound gross?

Re: What can you add to Mac&Cheese?

  • Cubes of ham.  Or peas.  I like both.
  • Loading the player...
  • tuna and frozen (well cooked) mixed veg (carrots, peas, green beans).  Mix it all up, sprinkle some cheese on top and put it in the over to melt.  It's like tuna noodle casserole, but easier.

  • Ohh, the ham sounds good!..I really have to go food shopping, so we don't have any of that either (I know, it sounds terrible :/ )..But I will DEFINITELY do that in the future. Thanks for the ham idea!

  • DH's aunt adds carrots and basil. I'm not a fan of the carrots but I do like the basil. You could also add ham or hot dogs.

  • I hate peas, so Blech! on that one (just kidding).

    Veggies?

Other cheeses? (to give it a more interesting flavor)?

Bacon (turkey bacon is good as it is less greasy)?

You could also put the bread crumbs on top and stick the pan in the broiler for a few minutes to brown it up and make it look pretty.

  • Any kind of sausage is good, even chopped up and browned slim jims (don't judge! LOL!).  I often do tuna, cream of soup and mushrooms.  Peas, carrots, green beans, broccoli and cauliflower in any combo are good too.  Topping it with bread/cracker/potato chip crumbs and broiling makes it nicer than "here's some Kraft Dinner" too.

  • Sometimes I throw in some tuna and corn.  I also always add a small handful of real shredded cheese to give it a little creamier texture.  I love boxed mac and cheese.

  • I make tuna mac which is boxed mac 'n cheese with two cans of tuna added along with 3/4 of a container of sour cream.  It doesn't look the best but it sure does taste good.

  • Hubby slices hot dogs and cooks them on the stove top and then adds them in with some extra cheese. Yummy.
