How do you find a family you can help with Christmas?

Where do you look for a family in need of help?

  • I know most churches usually have something organized and you can "adopt" a family or kids.
  • Churches, malls, and banks often have angel trees or adopt a family programs.

  • I do volunteer work for a few local organizations that help families and children in shelters. Try calling local shelters and see what you can do.

  • We take our kids and do the angel tree.

Rather than giving gifts to cousins and BIL/SIL we do a family, everything from a meal to stockings. My SIL used to get names from this guy and now she can not get ahold of him.

Thanks, I will try my church and my sister is asking the principal at her school.

  • We have a couple of shelters around us that do it--you just kind of have to call around and ask, I think.  One of them is a domestic violence shelter my grandma knows about b/c she used to be a social worker, but otherwise it'd be hard to find because they have really vague names (since having DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SHELTER on the building and in the phone book would just lead abusive exes to find them again).
  • We have a local community center that sponsors such a program.  We have done it a few years now and we have had so much shopping for the families.  I would call your community center or call some local churches.  Our local police department is also involved with our community program, in fact the police officers are the one's that come to our house and pick up the gifts for delivery.  I know our church also does participate in the same program.  You may also google around online for some local organizations to "adopt a family" for the holidays.  Good like!
