Teacher Mommies

When the heck are you getting your correcting and paperwork done?  I don't remember it being this difficult when Mya was little.

Re: Teacher Mommies

  • Um, yeah....

I bring home stuff every night & every weekend but I NEVER pull it out of the bag.  I *could* do it after she goes to bed, but that is the only "me" time I get all day!  Plus, there are always household chores & home projects for me to work on.

Currently I'm still correcting a project that my students turned in two weeks ago.  It's bad.

    I feel ya!!!

Thank you so much for writing this.  This is exactly what is happening. My students keep on asking me why I am not as organized as usual and then the killer is, they ask why I look so tired.

  • I can't answer from experience, but I can be hypothetical...

I always found grading to be way more torturous than lesson planning.  Actually, planning for me was kind of fun.  So, why not try to plan at home and grade on preps?

  • I'm right there with ya girls.  Anderson goes to bed between 6-7 so by the time I get home (esp. if I have after work meetings) I don't have much time with him.  I don't grade papers until he goes to bed, but then it is my time to catch up on email, my bumpies...and then bed.  I find myself doing it on Sunday afternoon evenings.

I also find I'm not grading as much as I used to.  Since I teach 2nd grade, a lot of things get stickers, stamps or stars.  Only tests and quizzes get a grade.  And I am having the kids grade a lot of their own papers.  Like math practice and busy work.  Since most kids that need support I help them through it anyway, they get a stamp with "completed with teacher's help".

But I have a bag full of assessments I need to correct for report cards that I might have my student helper (high school student that is interested in teaching) help with...hey It's part of teaching right?  I always do the student's reading tests though.
