Addicted to the pacifier

Reese is turning into a pacifier junkie. She has always gone to sleep with a pacifier, but once she really falls asleep, she spits it out, & is fine. Most of the time she won't even take it after a middle of the night feeding. In the last week, she has started waking up & crying every single time it falls out. I'll let her fuss for a minute, hoping she will go back to sleep, but it always escalates to full blown crying. I am getting up to re-pacify her no less than 20 times a night. This has got to stop. Any ideas?

  • leave that baby girl alone, she needs her paci.  At that age, I wouldn't worry about it

She isn't worried about her having the paci.  She wants to sleep.

dani, I hope she figures it out.  I have no advice.  K never wanted one.

  • Hopefully she will find her thumb or fingers soon so she can soothe herself.  I would take the pacifier any day over the thumb though.

Is she the same way for naps?

She doesn't seem to have the same problem at naptime.
  • Can you try to get her to "eat" her fingers/hands? This is what I did with Caroline a while ago and that's how she soothes herself now.
  • G did this ALL the time!!!!!! I would get up constantly throughout the night just to put the paci in her mouth.....I have no solutions for you...G just eventually stopped waking up for her paci...But girl, I know exactly what you are going through, and honestly I do not think there is anything you can do..I know for me she just stopped doing that one day....and G loves her paci...that doesn't bother me at all though....
  • Does she take a paci at nap time?  If not, I'm guessing you could easily wean her off it at night.  I would try showing her the thumb- it's ALWAYS there when they need it!

Sorry I'm not much help, Hayden never took a paci either.

  • Dani - we went through the same thing.  I totally know where you're coming from on this.  It sucks getting up all night long to replace the paci.  Eventually it got to where she would only cry when it fell out of the crib, which was a lot too.  We ended up putting the bumper thing back on her crib just to keep the paci in.  That helped.  I guess I don't really have any advice.  We still have to get up a few nights a week to find her paci on the floor and give it back to her, but it's way better than it was.
  • Im not sure what to tell you except at some point Briley figured out how to find it and put it back in herself . I don't really remember how old she was but hopefully Reese figures it out soon!
