Bottles

What bottles are you using?  I have been researching bottles for the past 2 weeks and am so confused as to which bottles to register for.  I worry about too many parts, leakage, the number of bottles to purchase.  What has your experience been?

U/S#1 showed 2 heartbeats! U/S#2 showed Baby A's heartbeat was 157 and Baby B 's heartbeat was 183! U/S#4 showed Baby A is a Boy (heartbeat 161) and Baby B is a Girl (heartbeat 159)!! Lilypie Second Birthday tickers

Re: Bottles

  • Get a few different types- there is no "best" bottle, only what your babies will like.

We started on Avents and H had crazy spit up (he has AR) so we switched to Dr. Brown's.  H did fine on them but A hated them, so A went back to Avents.  So now they use two different bottles which is great for keeping track of things.

FWIW, I like Dr. Brown's a lot more than Avents.  People say they are a PITA to clean, but I don't really think so.

  • We have the cheap Evenflo bottles.  They're $10 for 12 at BRU and they've worked great for us.  I actually tossed all of our Vent Airs because they leaked and had too many parts.  I wanted just a simple bottle and I'm glad I didn't spend more money on fancy bottles.  So many times we've forgotten a bottle or two in the car and found it days later, they're so cheap, it's no problem just to toss them.

  • We use the Playtex drop ins.  I love that I only have to clean the nipples. We use the Target drop ins so they are cheaper.  We used them with older DD and we had no spit up or gas issues... so far the twins are doing really well with them.

Ditto this!  I used the cheapies for my son (evenflos maybe) and he did fine...but both of my girls have reflux and the Dr. Brown's are great for us.

People have said they are a pain to clean...but we've never had a problem... you don't really need the fancy Dr. Brown's dishwasher baskets... just get this basket pack...it's great.  (brand is Munchkin)

  • DD using the cheapie Gerber bottles ($3 for three at Target and BPA free). They fit the nipples that they used in the NICU, so it worked out. However, DS has reflux so I switched to Dr. Browns in hope of some help! I actually like them a lot, and I use the baskets for cleaning which is simple. Really not a pain at all.

I used Born Free with my older daughter. I thought they were fine....not sure why I avoided them this time around.

  • We only bought one kind, Dr. Brown's, and they worked well!  We love them!

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • We used Dr Browns from the beginning and had no problems with them.  There are a lot of parts but it really wasnt a big deal for cleaning.

This! Also as far as cleaning them I actually found that I enjoyed having to wash bottles because it became a "break" for me. I'm such a neat freak now, saying I have all this stuff to clean just to get some alone time :)

  • All of our babies are using Dr. Brown's and we love them.  There are several parts but it's not too bad and I think it's worth it.  We got few 4 oz bottles and I'm glad because they are almost done using them.  So if you're going to get them, get most of them in the regular bottle size (8 oz).  Also, get the dishwasher baskets, they have specific slots for each part of the bottle.

  • I have tried Tommee Tippee, Evenflo, Dr. Brown's, the Medela bottle that I pump into...and just last week I started trying Mam bottles.

Tommee Tippee: Nobody likes, and leaks.

Evenflo: Luke dislikes, Cal likes sometimes

Dr B: Luke likes, Cal dislikes

Medela: Nobody likes. NIpples compress even when I use the faster flow.

Mam: Luke likes, Cal likes sometimes.

The advice to get a bunch of kinds to try is good. You never know what your baby will like.
