Is it overboard...

...to look into a contraction monitor? An older mom with twin girls in high school mentioned to me that she had pushed for one because she had no idea what to look for in terms of being in labor.

For some reason I've been reading more about pre-term labor lately, and I'm nervous about something happening but my not knowing it.

Any thoughts? TIA!

Re: Is it overboard...

  • they are not commonly used in twin pgs. the only person i know who had one was DH's cousin while pg with triplets- only b/c she had PTL issues they wanted her monitored at home (she's an hour from the hospital).

  • I'm in the same boat as OP. I feel really nervous about missing the signs of PTL. I'm also having a hard time figuring out what BH are supposed to feel like. It's my first pregnancy and the examples given in my PTL class aren't really helpful.

OP did you find contraction monitors for rent/sale online? I know it may be a little overboard but, if they're reasonably priced, I wouldn't mind renting one. Just for my own peace of mind!

  • I experienced PTL for 5 weeks.  You will know if you are experiencing it. You will know...
  • I don't know about that, but I think you just really need to know your body.  Read up on the signs of pre-term labor.  There are some good websites out there and just really pay attention to your body, take it easy, rest, lay down when you need to, don't stay on your feet all day.  Talk to your doc about it too and I say CALL them or go to L&D if you think anything is wrong or doesn't feel right or whatever.
