DS gags when eating ground turkey or beef. He's tried shredded beef, shredded chicken, turkey etc and it makes him gag to the point he vomits sometimes.
he does eat the gerber toddler little "hotdog" things in the jar and the pureed meat just fine.
DS hasn't tried many meats yet, but he did well with turkey meatballs today. I know I hate any kind of stringy meat, I have a hard time getting it down myself, so maybe starting with some sort of ground meat (lean ground beef, turkey, etc) would be better? We make a simple sloppy joe with just ground beef and tomato soup. Then you could add spices for the adults, and leave it plain for your LO.
A lot of little kids have trouble with meat at first (even for a while). The texture is quite different, it's not as soft, and it can be chewier and hard to swallow. I wouldn't stress it at this point. Keep offering it, and introducing it to LO in different ways, but don't worry if they don't eat it; they're are other sources of protein. My DS is over 2.5 years and he's only now starting to warm up to meat...very slowly.
Re: Meat- DS gags when eating it... anyone experience this?
My little guy too. He even gags on the mixed meals with meat, like chicken and vegetables. I figure I'll try again in a couple of months.
Right now he is rejecting most pureed baby foods. He only seems to want things that are crunchy. Maybe he's teething?
