Pregnant after IF

Maybe a silly question RE: L & D

Everytime I have been admitted to L & D (for my cervix), they go through the run down of questions on medical history, drug use, how the babies were conceived, etc.  Literally every time a new doctor comes in, they ask the same questions...same goes for nurses.

I am having anxiety about them asking these questions when I am in actual labor because my ILs do NOT know about IF or IVF or anything.  My family and ILs will be allowed in the PET room prior to going to the OR for my c-section.  I know I am probably thinking way too far ahead and hopefully they won't ask me these questions with others in the room.  BUT, what would be a good excuse for me not answering those questions in front of my ILs without sounding like I am hiding something from my ILs?

DH thinks they will not even be paying attention, but going on how my MIL was attached to my SIL during her labor, I have a feeling she will be right next to me.

Re: Maybe a silly question RE: L & D

  • When you first get there, tell your L&D nurse your concerns and that you REALLY don't want to discuss medical history or anything with your ILs around.  They can insist on ushering people other than your DH out when it's time to discuss things. (And for God's sake, I'm with you on the repetition.  Can't people read a chart!?!)

This exactly. I would just tell the nurse that you do not want your family knowing your medical history. The nurses will understand and usher them if need be.

  • I agree with everyone else!  I think technicly they can't ask you anything about your medical history in the presence of others due to the privacy laws.  Like pp said, just let them know when you get there that if they need to discuss anything with you to please do it in private.

    this.

I've never been to L&D, but no one at the hospital has ever asked me how I conceived! I don't know what that has to do with the price of tea in China?

  • Thanks, ladies.

Niki- maybe they just want me to feel like a bad Catholic because it is a Catholic hospital and we did the forbidden IVF?  Ok, kidding.  I am sure it is medically relevant!
