I was doing a presentation in my class last night and then teaching today and got out of breath both times. It was so weird. I had to sit down and catch my breath. Then today taking two flights of stairs I had to stop midway. I am in pretty good shape so I guess that is why this is so strange to me. Its a sign that I need to slow down.

Yeah, I've noticed this the past couple weeks...when I'm wrestling my LOs and trying to sing lullabies... I sound like I'm on my last breath. Luckily they aren't critical of my singing to begin with.
YES! I was just telling my pulmonologist about this today. Every time I have to go up stairs, I end up having to sit down to catch my breath. I hate it.
This. I hope people don't actually believe that the diaphragm rises! It is restricted in it's movements a bit from a uterus that has risen but I can promise you that your diaphragm does not move. Your blood volume increases between 40 and 50% during pregnancy, starting in the 8th week and peaking in the 32nd week. The increased volume requires your heart to handle more fluid than it has probably ever been used to and (if you monitor your heart rate) you'll notice that your resting heart rate has started to increase already...THAT is why you get out of breath easier, it's all about cellular oxygen delivery and your heart needing to pump more fluid along than it is used to.

Great explanation, thanks Meagan! It's so weird to get out of breath when talking, and yup, I get out of breath walking from my office to the other building where I work, or upstairs to other offices.

This, I'm glad you said this, because I was going to. It's the extra work on the heart that causes you to be out of breath.
I get so out of breath even when I do little things, and I can feel my heart rate going up. But, it's because my heart has a lot of extra fluid to pump.
Mama to sunshine baby "J" 5.13.11 and angel baby "E" born still on 2.11.14
I noticed I was short of breath last night just talking to DH, it was weird. I went from sitting on my butt at the computer to sitting on the couch and I couldn't even read a section of our devotional without stopping to catch my breath. I felt so out of shape, but I guess that's just how much baby is pushing on my lungs. I know that 'the bump' said I would be out of breath, but I didn't believe it because baby isn't THAT big...but it's true!!
i get very out of breath very quickly i had weak lungs before i was prego and now sometime when i'm lying down (even on my side) it feels like i'm breathing through a straw. bad feeling.

Re: Anyone else getting out of breath?
Thanks. That's good to have an explanation
Join our wiki and tell us what your baby eats for finger foods.
No problem. But next it will be your tummy...and you'll have to limit what you eat...SUCKS!!!
I have often wished the Bump was like FB in this way...why must I post if all I want to do is 'like' it.

I said it gets squished...I never said it moved.

I am glad I am not alone in this. I feel like I am always trying to catch my breath. It is terrible.
