stripping with Calgon (water softener)

Have any of you ladies stripped your diapers using Calgon water softener.  I washed on hot with an extra rinse 3-4 times all of my diapers using 1/4 cup of calgon and I line dried them for 2 days.....I'm hoping that works.  This is my first time stripping.  What are your experiences using Calgon to strip?  Does it seem to work or is there a better option?  I just put all of my line dried dipes in the dryer to soften them so I haven't used them yet.
