I would say them the same. But I speak a little Spanish and live in an area where a good portion of the population speaks Spanish.
We know a little girl named Eva (Ee-va) and her parents constantly correct people about the pronunciation. I think it would depend on how familiar people are with Spanish in your area.
I always pronounced Eva as ay-vuh. I didn't even realize people were spelling it Ava until I met a little girl with it spelled that way. I prefer Eva (ay-vuh) personally. It looks prettier. Just be ready to make a quick pronunciation correction somtimes. But it's not like it's weird to pronounce Eva like ay-vuh if that is what you'd like to do. Both pronounciations are acceptable.
I think Eva can be pronounced either way (depending on the language you are speaking) but Ava is always Ay-va, so the pronunciation is never in question. If you want EE-va, go Eva, and if you want Ay-va, go Ava.
FWIW, they also mean different things. Eva is based on Eve (as in Adam and -) and Ava means "little bird" (like Aviation)
Ava is our first pick for a girl

$.02 from someone w/ Ava as a NN... In my experience, most people see "Ava" and pronounce it AYva. Personally, I prefer AHva, but I seem to be in the minority. I picked up pronouncing it this way because I first got the NN in Latin class in HS, and in Latin, A is always pronounced "ah"...if you want a long A sound, you use E...which means my first reaction to seeing "Eva" is often "AYva"(like Ms. Peron)...but since I don't associate with that name as strongly, I'm equally likely to pronounce it EEva.
My first guess for Eva would be "ee-vuh." Personally, I much prefer it to Ava. I've never been wild about Ava, always thought it sounded like it was missing something, but I think Eva is really pretty.
Re: Eva vs. Ava
Among English-speakers, I'd say the vast majority of the time Eva = EE-vuh and Ava = A-vuh.
I personally prefer Ava.
Yup, what she said.

My thoughts too.
