They talk about 'milestones'...how about this one??
I am an Occupational Therapist for an inpatient rehab program, so frequently I get visits from past patients who want to show me how well they are doing. It is one of my favorite parts of my job. Yesterday morning I finally told my supervisor. I was nervous because I know it will take her a fair amount of stress and many months to arrange coverage for my leave.
Not one hour later, in a busy waiting area, a past patient and his wife walk up and she immediately puts both of her hands on my belly and asks if I am pregnant!! I have a bump, but it is only a little bigger/rounder than the little belly I had pre-pregnancy! Needless to say, I was happy I had already told my supervisor, I wouldn't have wanted her to find out by observing this!
It was the strangest thing to have someone else, not quite a stranger, but close, touching my belly!! I have been warned, but still! Boundaries people?!? DH thought the whole thing was crazy!
Has this happened to anyone else yet?
Re: Other people touching your belly?
Oh, fun times... I hate being touched in general, so this is definitely one of my pet peeves.
So far my dad touched my belly as a joke when I first was pregnant, which was fine. Then my mom's close friend (who I've known forever and babysat her children, who are now in college) touched it. Fine, okay, I know you.
But a few weeks ago a random co-worker came up and said, "I can't wait until you start to get bigger!" And she started touching my belly. Woah. That was so incredibly uncomfortable for me. I wanted to take her hand and put it back on her belly. Ha ha!
IRL, I am a very awkward person who has a hard time holding eye contact with people, I don't know how I am going to deal with people thinking they can just run around touching my belly when it gets to that point.
I don't like being touched and I don't like talking to strangers SOOO...yeah. Maybe I'm not a happy shiny pregnant lady.
My grandma and MIL have both touched my stomach. I try to be kind because they are both family and I don't want to be rude, but....I hate being touched period. I have always been that way. I'm just not touchy feely at all, it makes me uncomfortable.
Now if a stranger or person other than family tries to touch my belly it could get ugly.
When we told my grandparents around 5 weeks my grama patted my tummy. She and DH are the only two people I'm going to let touch me without permission. If anyone else does it I'm going to smack their hand away and ask if they forgot the elementary school lesson about keeping their hands to themselves. Just because I'm pregnant doesn't give anyone the right to touch me without permission. That being said, if the baby starts kicking around my family or close friends, I will probably let people feel.

I don't let anyone touch me but my husband and Mom. And I am the first one to voice that. If someone reaches in my belly area I will divert their hand(s) and tell them I don't like to be touch. Just because I am pregnant doesn't mean you can molest me.
I hate people touching me and tend to back away from people that I feel are coming after my belly.
My sister touched my belly a few weeks ago and I told her "thanks for touching my guts, I am quite certain the baby is way closer to my pelvic bone" she pulled her hand back and kinda freaked out. She hasnt touched me since!
I have been known to growl at people too...
HAHAHAH love it!
