We are using Dr. B bottles...the y-cut is just too fast for Kaleb whether it has rice or oatmeal cereal.
I want to use oatmeal cereal because it doesn't constipated him like the rice cereal but its get too clumpy in the nipple and he just gets pissed off because the Level 4 nipple gets clogged, he works too hard for it and usually just screams at us or goes to sleep because its too much work.
If he has a 6 ounce bottle, I put 5tsp of rice cereal with a level 4 nipple and its perfect for him. I have played with the amount of the oatmeal but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
thoughts? I read on refluxrebels.com that some put the cereal in a food processor to make it finer...anyone tried this? does it work? It doesn't seem like it would work to me but at this point, I will try it.
Has anyone found a finer grain oatmeal cereal that doesn't clump? is there such a thing? I am thinking different brands may have different textures?
Tia!
Re: AH! cereal in bottles...rice=constipation; oatmeal=too clumpy to get thru nipple
Have you tried Beechnut? We use the rice cereal, and theirs is much finer than Gerber and Healthy Times.
We were told not to use Oatmeal because it often contains wheat, which is a common allergen. To help the consitipation we gave just 5ml of pear juice diluted 50% twice a day. It did the trick and was really gentle.

The Bump MoM Recipe Collection
With my older DS & my twins I did/will use oatmeal instead of rice because of the constipation issue. With my older DS, I used Gerber oatmeal inside his bottle & never seemed to clump. However, I didn't use the bottles I fed formula to him in, I used a cheap bottle and cut the nipple (stabbing the hole with a knife to make bigger) to my liking, that way I could make it bigger when needed. Now when my twins do cereal I will do the same thing, especially with the nipple b/c my DD doesn't handle fast flow very well so I will cut the hole in the nipple smaller than DS's. I have never used any other brand of oatmeal and my older son who had and still does have constipation issues did very well on Gerber, once I find something that works I don't usually change.
