TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

I have a couple questions.  Today is CD 1 for me so I will be calling in to set-up my HSG if the doctor's office is open today.  When I had my appointment they gave me a sheet that said not to drive afterwards.  Did any of you drive afterwards?  My DH cannot take off Monday because he works in the lab at the VA Med Center and they are getting new machines and he is responsible for installing them.  It is about an hour away where the proceedure would take place.  Do you think that I could drive or should I see if someone else could go with me?

Re: Hysterosalpingogram (HSG)

  • I drove for both of my HSGs.  There was no problem with that, it was just a bunch of cramping during the procedure and nothing to worry about after except the drips from the dye.  The whole procedure is about 15 min., so it isn't long at all.  I think you should be fine.  GL, I hope you have clear tubes and a nice ute!

  • I've had 2 of them done, both by the RE.  One was a bad experience and I almost passed out, one was just a little cramping and no big deal.  I drove after both.

  • Dh drove me, and I'm glad he did, but I could have made it on my own.  Mine lasted about 25 minutes and was quite painful, so it was nice to have someone there for moral support.

  • I didn't drive after mine, but I could have.  It really wasn't much worse than a pap smear, some cramping and such afterwards, but it was ok.  I think you'd be ok to drive.

  • I drove after mine, too. The HSG hurt while it was happening, but once it was over, I felt fine.
  • DH came with me, it was painful during and I almost passed out too, but it was quick and I was fine after. I could have driven home, but I'm only 5 minutes from the hospital where I had the procedure done.

  • Looks like my mom will be taking me.  I felt that I would be OK driving, but she thinks that since the doctors office said to have someone drive you afterwards that she should.  Thanks for all the answers.

  • I didn't drive after mine because DH was with me.  It does cramp a good amount while it's happening but after it wasn't bad, just lots of leaking, so make sure you wear a pad.  Good luck.

  • I didn't drive after mine but I could have.  I found the cramping to be very similar to AF cramps.   Just make sure you take advil/ibuproferun, etc a little before hand as recommended.  If you can have a support person with you, why not.  Sometimes it helps lessen the stress of it all.

GL and Im hoping for clear tubes!

  • I took some tylonal and had mine. Than 20 minuets later I went back to work for the day.

It's like a pap with dye you can see on a screen. I found it very fasinating, but I'm weird like that.

The only pain you might feel is if one of your tubes are blocked the pressure from the dye being pushed in harder to clear it.

    Good luck!

  • I drove after mine (but DH worked 5 minutes from where I was and my dad was off so if I needed to I was planning on calling one of them) but it really wasn't bad. My RE advised me to take 3-4 advil 2 hours before hand and I think that made it MUCH better. It wasn't pleasant but it wasn't the worse thing ever. Good luck!
  • DH drive me, but I could have easily driven myself.  I also went back to work immediately after and was fine.  Good luck!

  • I drove to that and to my hysteroscopy and was fine for both.  I took 3 advil about 45 minutes before the hsg and that really helped.  Good luck!!!!
