Nightmare question

Did anyone else have nightmares while pregnant? My OB said it's fairly common. I didn't have them at all with Bella and now every night around 2 am. I wake up freaking out from them AND I remember them which means I'm totally exhausted all day because i feel like I didn't sleep a wink! My OB said to take benadryl, which I've been doing, it helped for a couple of days and now it's not helping any more. He said the next step is Ambien but I'm 100% against that, so it's not really an option... Any ideas? I'm desperate here.

Re: Nightmare question

  • I haven't had bad dreams, but I have been having very weird dreams.  Either way, I toss and turn all night so I never get a good nights rest.  My doctor did tell me I could take Benadryl if I'm desperate or try eating a little snack before going to bed so your tummy isn't empty.  I usually eat a bowl of cereal before bed, maybe that's why my dreams aren't bad yet???  Who knows, sorry I couldn't be much help :(  Hope your bad dreams go away real soon!

  • Yeah, mainly a lot of weird, vivid dreams but only one real nightmare that had me wake up crying (I dreamt that MH and I were in a fatal car accident and I was pregnant). But yea, I didn't do anything about them and I seemed to stop having such vivid dreams when I went on maternity leave (maybe because I was so relaxed and sleeping in so much?). Do you feel stressed during the day? It might be correlated but I'm not entirely sure--just seemed to be the case for me. I hope it gets better soon!

  • I had a season earlier on where I had crazy dreams and/or nightmares for a couple months. It got to the point where I didn't want to go to bed because I didn't want to wake up screaming or freaked out. Luckily it went away for me...maybe the same will happen for you? When those moments came, I relied on soothing Chamomile tea with a little bit of honey to calm me down and get me back to the zzzs. I don't have a bathtub but if I did, I would take a nice warm bath as well (candles on the side and all). Hang in there and take care!
