OK silly question I know but what is the difference between pasteurized and cultured milk? Some labels include both and some just have cultured. Is cultured safe too?
Cultured milk is not the same as pasteurized milk. Cultured dairy products refer to dairy where lactic acid bacteria (for example) has been added to ferment it. To make cheeses or yogurts, etc.
The only milk I can think of that would be labeled both ways is buttermilk, made from pasteurized milk but cultured by the added bacteria.
Anyway, it is all safe for a pregnant woman- as long as it also says pasteurized.
