WDYT of Blake?

I searched the last few pages and it doesn't appear anyone has posted recently about this name. It also doesn't seem to be on many posters' "lists."

We like simple, masculine names that don't have nicknames, that are easy to spell and pronounce. We are currently TTC and can't seem to come to a consensus on a name if we have another boy.

I would love your honest opinions on our potential name:

Blake August S----

August is a family name, it was my great-grandfather's middle name so we are definitely using that as the middle name.

TIA!

Re: WDYT of Blake?

  • I don't love the flow of Blake August, but the middle name is significant and I think Blake is great, so go for it!
  • If either of my girls were a boy, they would have been a Blake.  Love it.

  • Eh, I'm not crazy about it, but my opinion has soured thanks to people stealing this as a girl's name.

For a boy, it works. It's not my favorite, but it's by no means a bad name. I absolutely adore August! (IMO, August Blake sounds MUCH better than Blake August).

  • My dd's closest friend is a boy named Blake that we've known since he was a newborn.  I love this boy almost as much as my own son.  But even with that positive association, I'm still not wild about this name.

Also I don't know if it counts as masculine, since it is also used a girl's name.

  • Blake is NMS. Whenever I hear someone say it out loud, I always hear Flake instead. But I do like August!

  • It's okay.
  • Dont like Blake....loveAugust
  • i like it (it's on our list right now) and i've never heard it used as a girls name...
  • I always think of it for a girl now since Blake Lively from Gossip Girl, but that's probably just me. If you love it, you should use it!

  • I like Blake August. I actually think I would prefer August Blake though, because I love the nn Gus, and the name flows a little better that way.

Blake is just okay to me - don't love it, don't hate it. Before we decided to definitely use family names as middle names, Blake was a top contender for a boy middle name. I think it flows well and sounds nice in the middle name spot most of the time. I'm not a huge fan of one syllable first names.
