I posted this on the Green board but did not get any feedback. Can anyone help?
We just bought the Angelcare monitor and it says we need to buy a masonite board to put under the mattress to hold the sensor. I looked masonite up and cannot find anything about it's toxicity level. I know particle board is full of them, but I read masonite is made with no glue, only steamed to hold it together. Does anyone know? Don't want to put something toxic under my newborn's mattress! TIA!!
Re: XP: Is Masonite safe?
Masonite, a type of hardboard, that was used for siding produced in the late 80's/early 90's was recalled due to quick rotting. It wasn't due to toxicity. My house, and many houses down here, have hardboard siding.
I honestly don't know if all masonite has toxic chemicals in it but it may considering that most is made with glues (often containing formaldehyde) to hold the wood fragments together. You may want to do a search into green building and hardboard vs pressboard vs plywood.
