I have been diagnosed with GD and right now just monitoring diet and of course sticking myself and checking blood sugar four or five times a day(((Ugghhh))) I have noticed that my fasting number is the only one that has really been out of the normal range. It seems that this number is only controled by insulin. Can anyone give me the expierence of insulin...injections etc... Thanks

Re: GD Fasting Numbers?
I was told by my GD nutritionist/nurse/nurse practitioner that fasting numbers are completely a hormonal issue and that the only way to control them was through insulin, just like you. To be honest, the insulin shots are not bad at all. 99% of the time, you don't even feel them. Sticking yourself 4-5 times a day in the finger is actually worse!! The biggest issue I have run in to is bruising at the injection site because I'm not getting the needle straight in and back out. But, the good news is the bruises don't hurt...they just look bad! OH, and the insulin overnight has definitely worked! Just don't be surprised if they have to continue to increase your dosage. I started at 14 units at 32 weeks, and am now at 28 units 5 weeks later!
Good luck!
