TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

We're taking a break

So I was told by the nurse from the RE's office that this is going to be a break because I have 4 residual follicles from last month. She said to think of it as a vacation. (Insert me wanting to cry here) So I ask when we start to think about moving forward. She looks at my chart and says "well, it looks like you can come and meet with the doctor to discuss what we're going to do next". So the Tuesday before Thanksgiving we're going to go talk to the doctor about what the next step is. I'm thinking it's IVF. I'm also thinking I'm at the point where our insurance will cover it. The requirements are:

1. Have been trying to conceive for at least 2 years

2. Not been successful with less invasive measures

However, I'm not sure what they mean by successful... is it just getting pregnant or is it actually having a baby? Oh well, I suppose I will find out in a couple of weeks.

Re: We're taking a break

  • I hope that you get the answers you need when you go to the doctor. I hope that if IVF is your next step, that insurance will cover it. Good luck.

  • Fingers crossed for your next step.  I have to believe that "successful" in terms of the RE/insurance means carrying a child to term.  It was part of my phsyician's definition when he explained why we carried the label "infertile" after 4 pregnancies in one year.

    I'm thinking of you as you wait.  I know breaks are hard on the heart (not that the non-breaks are ever easy either).

  • Oh Amy I'm sorry hon!! I'm glad though that your insurance will cover. That's good news that's one advantage to living in NJ it's one of the few states that requires insurance companies to cover.

    This exactly!

    I know from my experience some insurance companies are real F*ckers and consider conception as being successful no matter the outcome and make you wait a year from that conception whether it was successful or not.........that's how mine was, however, others do not work that way.   I hope yours is the latter of the two......Gl and I hope whatever you road you end up taking is covered by insurance..
  • I'm sorry this is turning into a break cycle, Amy.  I'm sure it's not the type of 'vacation' you'd hope for.  I hope if your doctor thinks IVF is the way to go for you that your insurance covers it.  ((hugs))

     This is what I thought!

    This is the exact wording...

    Eligibility Requirements
    Infertility services are covered for any abnormal function of the reproductive systems such that you are not able to:
    ? Impregnate another person;
    ? Conceive after two years if the female partner is under 35 years old, or after one year if the female partner is 35 years old or older, or if one partner is considered medically sterile; or
    ? Carry a pregnancy to live birth.
    In vitro fertilization, gamete transfer and zygote transfer services are covered only:
    ? If you have used all reasonable, less expensive and medically appropriate treatment and are still unable to become pregnant or carry a pregnancy;
    ? Up to four completed egg retrievals combined, per lifetime (including those covered under prior plans, but not those provided at your expense); and
    ? If you are 45 years old or younger.

    After reading it again, it looks like the 2 year thing was just to start seeing a RE and I already did that. And then it looks like I'm good to go. I suppose we will see what happens on the 23rd... I'm so scared. I don't know why but, oh well...

  • I hope things go well at your next appt and that if IVF is your next step, that it is covered by your insurance.

  • ((HUGS))  I hope your "vacation" gives you a good mental break from the TTCAL insanity, and that your doc gives you good answers at your appt.  good luck! :)
