Mommas: Daylight Savings & Routine

Because I wanted to keep the routine going at the same "time" vs the same actual time, LO's bedtime naturally got shifted an hour early since Sunday due to daylight savings. Is that what you do/did? I guess it was an "easy" way to move his bedtime earlier =P heh, but then it would just get moved back when daylight savings hits us again in the summer. Do parents just shift it back and forth with daylight savings or what?

  • You can gradually adjust it in 15 min increments. We just did whateva, went with the flow. She was a little "off" for a couple of days, but got on track soon enough. Depends on your baby... HTH!

  • in anticipation of the time change i started putting her to bed 15 min later each night leading up to the time change. that way, when it happened, she still went to bed at the same "time" even though it was really an hour later.

i say do whatever works for you and your LO but if you are wanting to stick to the same time most pedi's will tell you to just transition them in 15 min increments like Malia posted above

We pretty much did this.  Except that I started a day late, so Friday night, he went to bed a 20 minutes later, then on Saturday 40 minutes later than usual.  So by Sunday night he went to bed at his "normal" time, which was actually an hour later than usual.  He seemed completely fine with this, but I suppose every kid is different.

We did this. Kailani went to bed an hour early on our clock but the same time for her 'bio clock.' She ended up sleeping a whole hour later and woke up at the same time. We're lucky she's now sleeping 11-12 hours this week. YAY!!!!

  • We didn't do anything special. Except for nap times, we put her to bed at 830 (which would have been 930) and she didn't nap the first time. Her second nap we did at normal nap time 1230 (which in her head was really 130) and she slept for 3 hours! She naturally adjusted her bedtime and wakeup times on her own.
  • Thankfully because we live in Hawaii we dont have to worry about daylight savings time...doesnt happen out here on Oahu! ;)
