Developmental Therapy Update

Our new DT just left after a nice hour here.  Side note, I had the appointment on the calendar for 1:45 and when she showed up at 12:45 I was still in my sweats, knee deep in laundry from our trip and with an un-vaccumed floor (yikes! We have a yellow lab).

Anyways, she worked with him on an exercise ball, several toys and signing.  He doesn't "converse" with people, whether we can understand it or not, which she said is the first thing she is working with him on.  Also, with the gagging and the excessive drooling, she thinks his jaw and mouth muscles are weak, which obviously inhibits speaking to a degree. 

I asked her if there was anything for me to work on and she said no, just keep talking to him, pointing things out, etc.

Both of us messed up our appointment times today!!

The beginning of therapy is always exciting because you're hopeful things will get better soon and you're doing the right thing.  I hope he makes improvement soon!

Can you educate me - what is a DT (vs. an OT/ST/PT?)

From what I understand, DT is sort of a stepping stone to kickstart several different forms of therapy.
