How much wool for dryer balls?

I bought a set of wool dryer balls that I LURVE and I want to make some for Christmas presents. I saw you can make them from either yarn or roving. How much of each would you need? I don't want to buy way too little and have to go back to the store tons fo times.

I found some good instructions when I googled for them last year.  Can't remember off the top of my head, though.  I want to say that maybe the goodmama blog had instructions?
